Ernest
Tsosie, III was born and raised on the Navajo Reservation.
He has been a professional performer since 1996, and is a
member of the Actor Equity Association(AEA), a union for professional
theater actors. Ernie has had a wonderful experience of performing
in theater, film, television, radio, and stand up comedy.
Ernie's theater experience includes acting in three
world premiere plays. The first play "13 Days" was
produced by the Tony award winning San Francisco Mime Troupe
and Tucson's Borderlands Theater. The second world premiere
was for the Actors Theater of Phoenix, a play called "Katsina",
in which Ernie received his first official pay check as an
"Actor." The most recent world premiere play was
the national award winning "Dust Eaters" by Julie
Jensen for the Salt Lake Acting Company. Ernie received his
acting training at Pima College in Tucson, Arizona where he
recently returned to act again in the play "Dust Eaters"
for Borderlands Theater.
In films and television Ernie's roles include "Clem
Allison" in the PBS movie of the week "A Thief of
Time" (2004). He was also in the cast of the award winning
Native exercise video "Rez-Robics". He was "Alvin
Bahe" in the Holt Hamilton production "Turquoise
Rose" (2006). And in the award winning feature film "Mile
Post 398" (Sheep Head Films 2006), Ernie played "Ray
Yazzie" in which he won the 2007 Best Supporting Actor
AWard at the 32nd Annual Americal Indian Motion Picture Awards
in San Francisco, California.
Ernie's greatest accomplishment thus far however was
accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and defeating
alcoholism and drug addiction to become a sober and drug free
husband, father, son, brother and lastly a professional Native
American entertainer. Ernie often says that.... "It's
great to be a Native American, but it's even greater to be
a sober and drug free Native American!"
"My accomplishment thus far in the realm of The
Performing Arts have been very rewarding, exciting, fun and
important to me as an individual, but I could not have had
the success that I have experienced with out my faith in Jesus
Christ as my Lord and Savior. Jesus was and is my Savior from
alcohol and drug addiction. My Savior from bitterness and
unforgiveness, my Savior from my destructive ways and the
darkness of this world. I pass all praise and glory on to
Jesus" ~Ernest David Tsosie, III
